not on my watch [Jun. 27th, 2005|10:00 am]
It seems as though, Nike has cashed in on everything else... why not sell out punk rock... read this article on this link!

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/news/05-06/23.shtml

I dont really know where to begin with all of this.... other than the fact it is wrong.

There are a lot of bands, that actually decided to cash in, for whatever reason, I am not talking about this and that, or major label discussions... I'm talking about a great band, that actually inspired a movement (A movement that I never really got off to, but respected nonetheless)
Despite how you may feel about The lifestyle of straghtedge Minor Threat spawned, there is no denying the major impact they had as a band. The band was GREAT. One of the best in punk rock early hardcore history. They deserved to be remembered as such. They deserve alot. They certainly don't deserve to be treated as an ad campaign.

Where does Nike get off?? Do they think that the punk rock community will respect it? Do they think that the majority of urban youths who bu Nike will even recognize it? Supposedly meant to attract the skater crowd... geez.

There's a lot of things I'm tolerant of, but the last thing I want is the company responsible for Air Jordans cashing in on my subculture

other news:

Queers fire Drummer
Earlier this month Andrew Griswold of Northern Ireland band the Dangerfields parted ways with the Queers, for whom he was drumming on their ongoing European tour. The split was certainly not amiable, as this post appeared on the Dangerfields' website:
Andrew Griswold has been sacked by The Queers after just eight UK shows. Joe Queer and his booking agents Blah, Blah, Blah Tours wanted The Dangerfields off the tour from day one and Andy was not prepared to sit back and watch his band get fucked in the ass.

After much bickering and bullshit, The Queers have flown in former drummer Dave Trevino to take Andy's place. Under the circumstances, The Dangerfields feel we cannot continue with the tour. We are left without transport, money and equipment and our principles mean more to us than sucking Joe Queer's corporate cock.

No statement from the Queers' side has been made

drive thru records will release Dylan tribute

Drive thru has set an August 16th release date for an upcoming double disc tribute to Bob Dylan. The set will include 21 Bob Dylan songs covered by a variety of artists including Something Corporate, Rx Bandits, As Tall As Lions and many others.

Spearheaded by Drive Thru co-founder Stefanie Reines who provided a list of forty songs for the bands to choose, Reines had this to say:
This project is all about love. I really want kids to experience what I do when I listen to a Dylan record. He's an acquired taste, but once you get it there's nothing in the world that is better or that you'd rather have.

ALBUM REVIEW- SPITALFIELD- STOP DOING BAD THINGS [Apr. 26th, 2005|06:10 am]
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Good folks at Victory sent this in, and as with other Victory Cd’s, I approached with caution, some are really really good, others, well I find I can’t stand.
This one… Pretty good. Press release was calling this melodic sounding punk, which may cause some people to think it is along the “teenybopperish” variety. From what I understand, they had a previous release before, which was described to me as “alright”… So when I popped this in for the first time, it also just seemed “alright”. However after a few listens as background noise, I began to find a real liking to this. Yes… it’s melodic, but it’s not childish.
An interview with this band is scheduled to go down soon in this webzine.

Show Reviews 4/8 Aeris & 4/9 Dynamite Boy [Apr. 11th, 2005|06:47 am]
Two farewell shows in 48 hours

4/8 Aeris Private house show

The looming departure of the band was what made the show all the more important. Sure, you have seen them in their numerous fliers and shows... and hopefully you have taken the time to stare at the flying fingers across the fretboard and wonder just how long they have been playing.
The set started around 730- and continued on to the night. There was an appearance by the "Killer Krows" which is a band that Aeris formed to open for themselves...
The show was great, the finality was not marked by any hostility. The kids were nice and cordial... and on a personal note... those guys are great guys.

4/9 Dynamite Boy's last show (Emo's Austin)

The opening bands were good... BORN TO LOSE is one of my new favorite Texas bands, MANITEE was the downslide... didnt like them too much (thank goodness they were already broken up and this was a one time deal for them) CRUISERWEIGHT was decent, I expected more from all the hype I have been hearing from them, the lead singer is a female and kept asking the crowd how she looked... sort of put up her annoying factor on... But I can't deny a lot of catchiness coming from some of their songs.
DYNAMITE BOY was in great form. Kind of like a "storyteller" set. They took you thrugh the history of the band in between songs... an encore was obvious. My friend Scott came up to me during the encore and said "There is a lot of sadness in the crowd right now" It wasnt because of the bands last perfomance, its because some of their melodic punk styled songs are really damn sad.

Funny thing about both shows... Neither band seemed to be splitting up due to hatred of one another... Good thing too... gives everyone else in bands hope

Show Update! [Apr. 8th, 2005|06:59 am]
This flier is being posted around town...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

The show is on a Monday, but the touring bands are cool, also, it would be cool just to see my favorite local band of the moment, Rochester, who won me over after just one set... hopefully they can do it again.

Aeris Last show is tonight. If you are invited, please check them out, they are truly an amazing band, who I am kind of pissed never got the praise they deserved.

Green Day Poster Banned
Grammy-winning band, Green Day has raised the ire of Marriott with a recent promotional poster that was intended for its Times Square Hotel.

The poster, which features the familiar bloody hand clutching a hand grenade comes from the artwork adorning American Idiot. According to a Marriott spokesperson "We have the right to review all advertising that goes on our buildings, and if we feel it has any political, pornographic or inappropriate content, we have the right to reject that ad."

Billy Joe was "dumbfounded" by the hotel's rejection adding that "I thought it was an April Fool's prank." The band will soon begin the second leg of a tour across the US, Europe and recently played in Japan and Australia.

EELS album info
Eels will be releasing their double-disc Vagrant debut, Blinking Lights And Other Revelations, on April 26th. Guests on the record include Tom Waits, John Sebastian of the Lovin' Spoonful, and R.E.M.'s Peter Buck.

NEWS 4/6/05 [Apr. 6th, 2005|07:01 am]
MUSIC NEWS FROM THE WEB…

Alkaline Trio’s new album is due 5/24/05

FAT NEWS:
Real McKenzies have completed work on 10,000 Shots, which will be the band's first official release for Fat and will hit tentatively hit stores August 23rd. The band's last full-length, Oot & Aboot, was released via Honest Don's in 2003.
The band also underwent a lineup change for the album, with Fat McMicheal now on bass and Good Riddance drummer Sean Sellers handling percussion duties.
Also, the band is planning on touring Europe this Fall, to be followed by dates in the states, Japan, Australia, and Canada. Those dates should be available soon.

In related Fat news, a memorial site has been launched in memory of the recently deceased Derrick Plourde, who drummed for the Ataris, Lagwagon, and Mad Caddies amongst others.

DROPKICK MURPHYS NEWS
Dropkick Murphys have announced the title of their upcoming full length which is due out June 21st via Hell Cat. The record, titled The Warrior's Code, is the sixth studio release from the Boston natives.

In a recent interview, bassist/vocalist Ken Casey said this about the record:

Yeah, and someone should have made a movie while we were making it. Those were hectic times. I had just had a baby when we started it -- and we were in recording 14 hours a day. Someone could have made a good comedy of errors, I'll tell you. You get a little delirious when you're working that many hours. But it came out great. And I'm actually going to be finishing the mix on it when we get back from England. So during St. Patrick's Day, if you see me out in my car in front of Avalon listening to a song, that's what I'm doing. I'll be checking the mixes so we can get them done by the end of the month.

The first track is about a friend [Greg Riley] who passed away. . . . And the second song is about the career of Massachusetts boxer Mickey Ward. . . . So, as always, there are stories about local people and stories about death and about partying. I guess it incorporates all the aspects of life.

INTERPOL IS GOING OVERSEAS
Interpol has announced the majority of dates for the next few months. April will see the band headed to Europe with (European) labelmates Spoon before returning to the US for two dates and then returning to the UK for additional dates. The band will round off the summer with two dates in Japan.

The band is touring in support of Antics.
